Can you believe it’s been over 10 years since I took up photography as a hobby?
My very first photo was of a cluster of flowers on a plum tree. Though I still like taking closeups of flowers, I feel over the course of the decade, my approach to photography has changed, especially in the recent years after I got my super-zoom lens. I’ve been focusing on perspective shots rather than getting the big picture.
As much as I love to photograph large landscapes, I find that zooming in and photographing the details makes my photos unique.
I got this shot when I went to the Tulip Festival a few weeks ago. Instead of standing up and taking the shot like everyone else, I decided to get on my knees and get the photo of this river of hyacinths from a lower perspective. I think it gives the viewers the perspective of seeing the scene as it’s meant to be seen if it were on a table.
I recently posted this photo for another challenge without much of a story. This is probably my new favorite of all the moon photos I’ve ever taken.
I haven’t taken a moon photo in a long while and it took me a while to adjust the settings on the camera to get the moon in just the right brightness. By the time I got it figured out, the sky had gotten a little darker and the moon was shrouded behind a patch of clouds.
“Come on, move, clouds,” I urged as I began to shiver in the cold. Oh yeah, did I mention it suddenly got warm at the end of last week? When I took this picture at the end of April, it was still in the 40’s-degree-Fahrenheit range.
In the end, I decided to not wait. The sky wasn’t getting any lighter and the darker the sky, the harder it is to get a hand-held shot of the moon, since I don’t have the steadiest of hands. I think the clouds made the shot a little unique, especially against the dark blue sky.
Lastly, this is another shot from the tulip festival. I will have to admit that I gain quite a bit of inspiration from my visit. I didn’t know there were so many types of tulips out there, not to mention pansy colors. I love this blue on dark blue pansy and wish I have it in my garden.
I recently scattered some pansy seeds in the shadiest spot in the back garden. There’s no more room in the front garden. It’s filled with viola volunteers and while I love violas, I wish they wouldn’t pop up in the cracks of the rocks because then I’d have to pick them before my mom go and spray the ground with weed killer, which is something I’m trying not to use as I rehabilitate the soil.

Those were great choices. I’ve never had success getting a moon photo.
