As I mentioned before in a previous post, my mom visited China in October and one of the places she went to was Nanchang, a city located in the province of Jiangxi.
It just so happens that this is where my boss is from and currently resides.
Anyway, as I was saying, while she was visiting, they provided her with everything, fine living and dining accommodations, etc. They even took her on a tour around the city and their factory too. It is not a big deal, that’s just something a host is required to do, right, show people around the city you live in, no big deal.
However, the problem is now. Basically, the problem right now is they live about 10 minutes from us and there hasn’t been a day where they are not calling us for every little thing even calling us to ask how to use an oven or how to eat a pie. It’s almost like we’ve become a concierge service or something. Worst of all, I keep having the feeling that they are calling because they seem to feel like my mom owes their family for paying for her accommodation while she was visiting. Even if that was it, that is not a good way to have people repay you.
If anything, their sister is the one who owes them. It was she who told them to do all those things. I don’t believe my mom cannot find her way around a big city. After all, she was a traveler before she made the U.S. her new home. However, there’s one thing to be glad is that I don’t have to tutor their son anymore. That kid has been a pain in the butt and I’m glad I don’t have to face 7 days a week.
