If I have a robot…

My mom has a tendency to find fault in anything and everything. This is not working right, that is not working right. She also like to exaggerate everything. The water’s leaking, it’s going to flood the basement!

So if I have a robot, it would be great because it would take care of every fault in the house and in everything she uses. The robot would immediately fix whatever’s wrong with the machines and the house.

Like yesterday, the plumber came to install the new bathtub in the new basement bathroom. He shut off the water for most of the day. Mid-afternoon, he turned it back on. Then last night, after I accompanied mom to Lowe’s to get 100-something tiles for all the bathrooms in the house, after we came home, she wanted to know whether the water softener needed salt. So I went to check.

Whoa! The water softener was full of water, that shouldn’t happen. I called mom down and she shrieked in the most dramatic way. What’s going on? Why is this full of water? She turned to me and I just shrugged. How should I know? I’m not an expert.

I called our neighbor over and she took a look. It turned out the water softener was turned off before it cycled all the way. She expertly pressed a few button and voila,  However, about 15 minutes later, mom goes down to check and shrieks, “It’s still full of water. Come fix this.”

I sighed and told her, “I don’t know how. I know nothing about water softeners.” I hate it when she does this, she thinks because I have an engineering degree, I know everything about anything.

Then she said like always, “Then why did I pay thousands of dollars for you to go to school for?”

So if I have a robot, I would delegate it for this responsibility and the job of answering my mom every time she hollers my name because that is very annoying too. She calls my name and then says nothing. “Never mind!” She says five minutes later and you realized you just ran down a flight of stairs to see what’s going on.

Thanks for listening.
