Blogging 101: Introduction

In less than a month, this blog turns 2! Just think, when I began this blog on February 3, 2013, the only thing on my mind was the aspiration to be a writer. My mom laughed when I told her that. She doesn’t agree I write very well. So I was going to prove her wrong.

I knew nothing about blogging and the only thing I knew about writing was sentence structure and grammar.

That’s how I got hired to teach English to foreign exchange students, by the way.

To some of you, knowing sentence structure and grammar will basically sum up the definition of writing.

No, writing is more than that. Much more than that.

When I wrote my first post, I did a lot of research on my topic, perhaps too much. But I thought it was okay because it was for my speech. That post took me days to write, then it was a long time. It’s still a mighty long time to write a 800-word essay.

Of course I had no knowledge of the existence of Daily Post or Daily Prompt. Otherwise, I would have kept going. I wouldn’t had retired after 4 posts because of the lack of motivation and inspiration.

I came back though, more than 7 months later. I guess situations I encounter on my new job are generating stories in my head and it’s piling up. I began writing them but it ended during the peak of summer when I suddenly ran out of stories to tell. That’s when I found the Daily Prompt.

It’s helped me to keep going, providing me daily with a different topic, sometimes good and sometimes awful but it’s kept me thinking back and searching for relevant stories. That is what this blog is about, by the way. I have never done Blogging 101 or any other blogging activities other than the Daily Prompt on this blog. There’s a first time for everything.

I will not rewrite the introduction to myself since I’ve already written a perfectly good one on my “About Me” page. If you’re a fan of fiction, then you will have to check out my other blog, Hidden Stars, the place where I write my fiction stories. I participate in all kinds of writing challenges over there like Friday Fictioneers, Sunday Photo Fiction, and Mondays Finish the Story.

Finally, I don’t post much on my blogs, minimum 1 post per day and maximum maybe 2 or 3 and that’s only during  break which I am on right now. I don’t post often because one, I have to work and two, my blog is secret. My mom doesn’t know I have been writing or reading blogs and I want it to stay that way.

Apparently I am supposed to have minimal entertainment in life. So I tend to squeeze in a minute or two while she’s home and more when she’s not. I know, it’s a dangerous game I’m playing which it’s why I want to get my own place.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this compressed introduction of my blog.

  1. Happy almost birthday to your blog! I found myself going through something very similar to your abandonment of your blog in it’s early stages, but I am so glad you have stuck with it! You were one of the first followers on my blog and you made me want to come back. I am very glad you came back yourself, or I wouldn’t have had you this past summer when I started blogging again.

I have enjoyed your writing thus far and am heading over to check out that fiction blog, so you keep on writing despite what your mom thinks. I’m proud of you! (:
