#AtoZChallenge – S/T For San Francisco/Turtles

I’m combining S and T so I don’t have to write another post.

31296_1424811016482_2414465_nMy mom and I were supposed to drive to San Francisco at the end of next month to deliver the turtles back to its owners and maybe drop by Yosemite. I was so excited and was looking forward to the trip but everything changed over the weekend. It turned out the turtles’ owner went back to China and no one knows when she’ll be back. The owners’ mother told mine maybe in a year and they’re going to Australia for the summer. That meant I have to take care of it for an entire year or more. Can you believe that?

The turtles are starting to make the house smelly and the weather’s not cooperating. The weatherman said there supposed to be another storm this weekend and the last one’s barely passed. It killed all the beautiful blossoms and plants. This has been the weirdest year ever.

I have already spray the house with air freshener but it didn’t work. I can smell it in my room upstairs.

I did a little more research last night on Google and it turned out the turtles are called red eared sliders and I have been feeding it too much. Actually, I’m not sure. I checked Petsmart and Petco. Both said to feed it every other day but it didn’t say how much. Are we supposed to know it by instinct? I know they are supposed to be long-lived but at the same time, I know they are not immortal. So they can get sick and die.

I haven’t feed it today. I thought to let it starve just a tiny bit since all the sites I’ve been to said I don’t have to feed it so much.

I was so looking forward to the trip and now I don’t get to go. 😦 I was so looking forward to visiting San Francisco for the third time and the Yosemite. I asked my mom, “Don’t you want to see the Yosemite?”

She didn’t. This was her excuse, “California is experiencing drought and all the waterfalls are dried up.” Is that true? Can waterfalls really dry up? I know about the drought in California but I’ve never heard that waterfalls can dry up, not unless the place turned into a desert, right?

  1. Aw, sorry about your fun trip getting cancelled. I don’t know about waterfalls drying up, but maybe little ones? I would think Yosemite would have big ones. ..Sounds to me like you have inherited those little turtles, and the people don’t want them (poor little guys) but I’m glad you care about their well being. 🙂

    1. I hear there are some big waterfalls at Yosemite.
As much as I want pets I just don’t know if I have the time to care for them and the weather is not exactly cooperating and I prefer not to have to change their water in the rain.

  2. I seriously doubt the waterfalls have dried up since their source is the mountains. OTOH, I don’t know if it snowed in the California mountains, you’d think so, though.
Since it’s obvious the owners don’t want the turtles, can you let them free? Or will they die?

    1. I hear the snow pack’s been lower in recent years. So who knows.
At the moment, I’m torn because my mom wants to sell it but what if the owner wants them back? Most of my mom’s friends have been known to change their mind just like that.

      1. I think living in the store might had been the best and the most dangerous time of their life. They had friends, they’re fed but yet they or their friends might disappear any day.

      1. I don’t know.

But they just made 15% reduction in water usage in CA – after several other reductions. So I wouldn’t want to live there right now anyway.

Visiting might be okay. Maybe. Wonder if there are water restrictions for tourists?

  3. Oh, Yinglan, your compassionate heart has been held hostage by a smelly turtle. I know nothing that can help you out! I’m still hanging in with you to see how the story turn out.

  4. That stinks that you aren’t getting to go to S.F. I would think the only way that waterfalls can dry up is if the rivers dry up. After all, it takes a river to have a waterfall. I’m glad you are taking care of the turtles. It’s not their fault their owner isn’t being responsible.
