Share Your World – 2015 Week #27

What is your favorite month of the year?

September! My birthday month.

Do you drink coffee at all?

No, not caffeinated coffee. I drink decaffeinated or cappuccino (99% caffeine-free). Ugh, boo to caffeine sensitivity.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

My first moneymaking job was when I was about 13. My mom’s friend ran an advertisement company and she need some over-time help to reach the deadline. My step-dad was totally against it but my mom was like child-labor? Whatever. So I worked 9 hours at $9/hour on a Sunday as part of a human conveyor belt sticking the Velcros onto the cellphone cardboard brochure.

Note: it’s not the soft end of the Velcros but the rough end. After 9 hours, both of my thumbs, index fingers, and even middle fingers were full of blisters and my mom got all the money earned.

List:  If you play video/computer games list 5 games you like?

If I play video/computer games, 5 games I would play would be:

  • The Sims
  • Any kind of fitness game
  • Car-racing
  • Any kind of simulation game
  • Any simple-minded game

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful I got a lot of work done over the 4th of July holiday and I am grateful to get to morning tea (早茶) on Saturday. It’s the first time since April or May. Along with that, we bought a roast duck and roast pork. We are still savoring it and it’s delicious.

I am looking forward to finish proofreading the remaining 30 or 40 articles today and then I can do whatever I have to do for the remainder of the month.

  1. Really interesting answers, Yinglan. You certainly had an early start in the world of work. Many people would say that it’s character building, but I don’t think you saw it that way at the time. The job sounded rather brutal on your fingers. Pity about your caffeine sensitivity – but there’s much more to life than caffeine. I’ve never really understood how people get addicted to it. But I suppose I don’t drink enough coffee to know. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Millie. To be honest, I’m not sure how I would had viewed it at the time. I guess I just did it to make my mom happy at the time. That’s what most 13-year-olds would do. The job was indeed brutal and I’m glad that’s only for one day but it was a good experience to put on resume. 😀
I guess that’s a good side to my caffeine sensitivity, one less potential addiction to worry about. 🙂 My mom’s addicted to caffeine and she can drink 8 cups of coffee and can still sleep, never truly awake. That is not a good way to live. Thank you for reading. 🙂

  2. The answers to some of these is pretty easy for me. My Favorite month is July because it’s my birthday month. I don’t drink much coffee; some decaf, some regular, as iced coffee. As for my first job, working the window at a Jack-in-the-box in Denton, TX. I don’t play video games and I am grateful for recognition of our country’s freedom. Next week I am grateful for my birthday having come this week and ending. (I am splurging this week a little.)

    1. These questions are not as hard as some of the ones I encountered in the previous weeks. I enjoyed reading your answers. Jack-in-the-box, I haven’t heard that name in a while. Have an early happy birthday. 🙂

    1. Cheers to being a September kid. 🙂 I’m the 24th, by the way.
A pot of coffee a day? Wow, well, less than my mom.
