This week, for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge, I am here to present a picture with a question mark. In other words, this week’s topic is to post a picture and let you, the reader, to figure out exactly what you’re looking at.
Well, as you can see, you’re looking at a mountain but what is that on top of the mountain? You tell me because I have no idea.
Satellite to receive a digital download for any extraterrestrials. 🙂

You still haven’t found out? Maybe a weather station?

Nope, it came and went, before I had a chance to figure it out. A weather station wouldn’t disappear, would it?

Not sure…. Hmmm….

Maybe it’s cloaked and you can’t see it anymore or maybe it was a prop for a movie?

Hmm… interesting.

I think it is an astronomical observatory with one of those giant telescopes.

I thought so too until it disappeared about two weeks later. 🙂

I remember this picture, and the mystery of it disappearing! Still don’t know what it could have been, but you have proof it was there! Looks like an observatory of some sort Maybe a homing base for aliens? 😉

Have I showed this picture before? I couldn’t find it in my files on WP. Hmm…
Yes, it is still a mystery. Haha, maybe aliens have landed to study us and forgot to cloak their ship. 😀

I don’t know, I thought maybe an astronomical observatory but you said it disappeared. Maybe it was only temporary?

Yeah, that’s what intrigues me. It disappeared and even if it’s only temporary, how did they move it? It has to had been a very big structure to be seen many miles away.

Francis Peak RADAR facility… Those are domes that cover large radar dishes. If so, I’m actually familiar with the peak as it’s skiable backcountry during Salt Lake area winters (though it’s been awhile). From what I’m reading, it was built in 1959, and operates (or operated) radar for the FAA (airline flights) and for the Air National Guard.
It’s ownership was apparently transferred to the State of Utah in 2014, indicating that it was no longer being used. I suspect that due to its impact on the top of the mountain, it was probably dismantled.

I’m not sure what mountain range that is. I suspect it’s the Wasatch range. Maybe they’ve been dismantling for a while and finally finished last October.

Yep, Francis Peak is in the Wasatch. I’ll bet that’s it!
