Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge – Older than 50 Years

This is one of the 49 boxcars sent to the U.S. from France after World War II in 1949 as a gesture of gratitude. This specific boxcar was sent to the Historic 25th Street Union Station in Ogden, Utah. I don’t know much about this car because after visiting the Union Station three times, I still haven’t bothered to read the sign. So I googled it and here is what it said.

This car was built in 1885 in Lyon, France. The boxcar was restored by the 40 et 8 Grande du Utah, the local chapter of La Société des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux. The project was headed by Byron Lewis with generous grants from George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation and Weber County RAMP.

I don’t know about you but that’s pretty old and I’m surprised that’s it’s in such great shape. If you want to read more about this boxcar, you can visit this link.
