Share Your World – Week of November 15, 2021 – Let’s get Philosophical

In your opinion, what should be humanity’s goal?

Humanity’s goal should be to maintain the environment and leave Earth better than you found it. I only wish I’m not the only one in the family that sees it this way.

Are you hesitant to speak your opinions?

In real life, I am because I tend to overthink things and by the time I finally think of the right thing to say, it’d be too late. I am also hesitant to speak my opinion in real life because I live with someone (aka my mom) whose emotions can flip with a snap of a finger. It actually a few times in the last couple of days and it’s annoying and scary.

In what ways has society changed during your lifetime? What do you think caused these changes?

What caused those changes is something known as disruptive technology and oh yeah, I’ve seen plenty of changes in society during my lifetime and I think and know they are caused by disruptive technology.

The biggest change is definitely the phone. Everyone nowadays are always looking down at their devices and hardly anyone talk face to face anymore. It’s just sad especially seeing the newer generations evolve into this kind of human being.

We had a family dinner the other night and I watched my cousin stare at his phone throughout the meal. We were having hot pot and he didn’t even look up, just dipped his chopsticks into the food and grabbed what came up.

Then when my other cousin came home, said “hello,” before burying his face in his phone. What is there that’s so interesting that dinner conversation became nonexistent?

If you had a friend who spoke to you in the same way that you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow this person to be your friend?

I would say indefinitely.

  1. Your mom sounds like my husband in that regard. His mood seems to change from day to day (or even moment to moment).. Everything will be just fine (well sort of) and then all of a sudden he’s in a pissy mood and wants to argue about everything (then turn around and blame it on me).

  2. Thanks Yinglan for Sharing Your World! I too am saddened by the cell phone phenomenon, but think that it is just their (that generation and those after them)’s burden to bear. Will it do damage to society? Yep, already is with the kind of scenario that you gave – nobody talks, they TEXT and if you don’t text, you don’t communicate. Sad state of affairs indeed! I’m sorry that your mother continues to be a burden, but want to commend you on being a good daughter. A lot of young folks would just leave her to her own devices and not care what happened. I hope your week is great! 🙂

    1. Maybe I’m an old soul at heart or maybe I’m just impatient. I hate texting people and waiting for their replies.
Also, as much as I don’t want to care, I feel I must since she’s living under my roof.
      Have a good week.
