Share Your World – Week of January 3, 2022 – New Year!

What frivolous, but annoying thing that people do be considered a sin (crime)?

When I see a parent in a store buying a child a lollipop or a soda, anything to shut them up. I find this very annoying and a sin because that’s giving into a child’s whim just because they whine and cry and throw a fit.

My cousins were like that when they were young. I witnessed it first hand and it is very annoying to see other parents spoiling their child or children. Maybe I’m just envious because I was treated that way as a child but then, looking at how my cousins turned out, I’m glad I wasn’t treated that way as a child.

And how should violators be made to repent (be punished) for it?

I think those parents will be punished plenty when those children grow up.

Imagination IN and impracticality and logic aside, if you could pick one animal to have as an exotic pet based solely on how cute and adorable it is, what would it be?

A cute and fluffy bunny!

Do you have any siblings?  If so, where do you rank in birth order?  And do you think either of these facts contributed to the person you became?

I don’t have any siblings. I was born under the one-child policy in China. Parents with more than one child had to pay a hefty fine to keep that second child. Now, the government is regretting that decision as birth rates dwindle.

Despite not having siblings, I have cousins and I am the oldest among my first cousins as well as the only girl. I am 4 years apart from my cousin on my dad’s side of the family and 5 and 6 years apart from my cousins on my mother’s side.

Being the only girl definitely contributed to the person I became because all the boys were and are spoiled rotten on both sides of the family while I was often punished for no reason at all, other than being a girl. The constant lecture and punishment strengthened me and taught me I cannot count on anyone but myself.

We all have things that make us happy, but what makes you deliriously, giddily, tail wagging-ly happy?

Seeing my plants grow and thrive is something that make me deliriously happy because it lets me know I’m doing something right.

If you had an alter ego, who or what would it be?  Describe some fun or interesting things about them!

If I have an alter ego, she would be a villain. She would be everything I’m not. She would be Hyde to my Jackal.

  1. Thank you Yinglan for Sharing Your World! Very forthright and honest answers to all the questions. I think many of us wish those same parents who are spoiling their children would give them a little discipline instead of a sweetie. Nothing harsh but teaching those kids some manners would benefit everyone. Sadly America is experiencing a reality where the parents and teachers and most any authority figure are afraid of the kids, because of the unreasonable punishment if they do discipline a kid. It’s sad. I’m sorry about your circumstances around your family, but find the story very interesting to read and hope sometime (if you haven’t) that you journal that experience of being born a girl in China when females weren’t very highly valued. I think it would be a most fascinating read to anyone who didn’t experience the same. Thank you for talking about it! Have a fabulous week and I hope you’re healing well from your surgeries. 🙂

    1. I thought about writing about it but thought it might be too whiny and complainy. Maybe I should, it should be written. After all, as equal as everyone wants this world to be, there’s very little of that going on.
I think my healing is going well. Thank you.

  2. I like the idea of the cute bunny.

Can’t imagine what it would be like growing up in a situation where you’re basically punished for being the wrong gender. As I understand, a lot of terrible stories came out of that one child decision.

I think not just # of siblings/ranking has an effect on who you become, but many other things as well.

    1. Thanks, I think something like the bunnies in the picture would make great pets especially if they don’t hop around. 😀

I’ve heard a lot of stories about that too like parents not wanting their child because the child’s a girl. Most parents would opt for a boy if they only have one shot which it’s sad.

I absolutely agree, the person we become is an attribute to many things.
