Share Your World – Week of November 21, 2022

1. As a child, did you prefer to watch TV, play games outside on a nice day, or read?

Until the age of ten, I didn’t really ever watched TV, played games outside, or read. What did I do? Homework. There was homework every weekday and twice the amount on weekends. Other than school, meals and being shuttled around between school, the sitter/nanny, and my aunt’s apartment, homework occupied the rest of my waking hours.

I am thankful I didn’t grow up in a time when computers was needed for schoolwork. My homework was hand-written, nothing was typed.

I didn’t start paying attention to TV programming until I moved to the U.S. It was also when I started to play outside, usually in between tutoring sessions, which were held at my home. During break, my friends and I would head outside and we would play all sort of games. I don’t think I really knew what being a child was like before then.

2. What would you rather do now, read a book, watch a movie at home, dine out with friends, or go down the pub?

I wish I can go down to a pub but the closest pub is about 30-miles away in an area with little to no parking. I don’t have any friends, so dining out with friends is out.

So it leaves watching a movie at home or read a book. You know what? I think I might a little of both. Read, watch a movie, maybe add a little crochet session in there. It may sound boring but what’s one to do when being stuck at home is the only option?

3. Are you fashion conscious?

Not really. I just wear whatever’s comfortable, usually a pair of stretchy sweats and a t-shirt plus a jacket on a winter day and a pair of shorts and t-shirt on a summer day.

4. Do you wear slippers, clogs or go barefoot indoors?

I prefer to go barefoot indoors unless it’s after I showered, then I’ll prefer to wear slippers. There are too many stairs and steps in my house and being clumsy, I don’t really trust myself in any kind of footwear as I have tripped and slipped on the steps too many times in the past.

    1. My mom likes to keep a pretty tight leash on me despite me being in my 30’s. She’s the controlling sort and doesn’t allow me to wander on my own without permission. It’s very annoying but I don’t have the guts to kick her to the curb.

    1. I believe our wanting to go out changes with age and I feel like I’m at an age when I should be out exploring the world instead of sitting at home watching TV all day.
I’ve never played darts, only seen people play it on TV, looks fun though I’d imagine is harder than it looks.

      1. I hadn’t played for almost 30 years when I was asked to play for the local team here. It was fun and a good way to meet people in a new place.
I was captain for two years, basically because no-one else wanted to be, and our team was very hit and miss, but we always had a fun night, win or lose. We won a trophy for coming bottom of the league, and I won one for ‘Most Improved’ the second year because I didn’t lose a singles game that season………….. we came second from bottom, but it was still fun!

  1. I also also nurture a desire to go to a pub, but I am 72 and I might look odd going on my own, plus It’s only fun at night and I cant drive at night, and I get drunk on two drinks and my housemate would would be mortified if he had to bail me out of jail. Go while you are young, just not on Wednesday or Friday. Those are stay home nights. Evil may see you. And that’s not good.

    1. Haha, you’re funny. 😀
I could’ve fulfilled my goal 3 years ago when I went to my high school reunion. A group of classmates were going to the bar and asked me to join them. I said no as my mom was already texting me asking me when I was coming home despite being not even 8 PM. I should’ve ignored the text and joined them but then how would I get home?

  2. I feel bad encouraging you to go to a bar. Listen to your mother. You will stay safe. Nothing good happens in a bar. I dated a hotel manager once. Nothing good happens. You need a nice strong partner to take care of you. I’m being a mother now. I was not meaning to encourage you because … Listen to you helicopter mother. She truly loves you.
