This week’s Wednesday Quotes is a tribute to all the mothers out there.

People often ask me, “How will you celebrate Mother’s Day?”
The truth is, I don’t. What’s the point? Mom never likes anything nice I’ve tried to do. She even told me once the worst Mother Day was that year when I fell off a wagon, hit my head, got a concussion, and had to spend Mother’s Day in the ER. I was 12 and clumsy. She’ll never let that one go, will she?
Then, there was one Mother’s Day when I offered to take her out to dinner. She spent the day picking restaurants and when I said, “Okay, let’s go,” she started nip-picking all the faults of the restaurant and we ended up eating at home.
Maybe that’s just how my mom is or maybe after all the years of enduring her temper tantrum, I’ve become bitter.
This year, Mother’s Day will be the day we arrive in London. I wonder if the continent we’re on will make any difference. Maybe after 8 sleepless hours, she might be a little receptive to my ideas. Of course, we will have to eat out since the hotel we’re staying in doesn’t have microwave or anything that’d allow us to cook.

Perhaps another lifetime ago, I wrote a poem as a tribute to mothers. It’s been posted and re-posted on this blog and I am going to re-post it again. Maybe then, I won’t feel so bitter about this Mother’s Day. Here goes:
YOU GAVE ME LIFE
YOU WATCHED ME GROW
YOU LET ME LIVE MY LIFE
LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE
YOU NEVER ASK MUCH FROM ME
YOU JUST WANT ME TO BE OKAY
NOW I’M STANDING HERE
WITH MY ARMS WIDE OPEN
I WANT YOU TO KNOW
THAT I’M HERE FOR YOU
AND THIS IS FOR YOU
SO LET ME GIVE THANKS
FOR ALL THAT YOU TAUGHT ME
TO HELP ME SURVIVE
TO HELP ME GROW
AND HELPED ME FIND MY DREAMS
I AM STANDING HERE
WITH MY ARMS WIDE OPEN
AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW
THAT I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU
WHEN YOU NEED HELP
BECAUSE THIS IS FOR YOU
YOU HELPED ME GO THROUGH
TOUGH TIMES, HAPPY TIMES AND SAD TIMES
I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT
I’LL STANDING HERE
WITH MY ARMS WIDE WIDE OPEN
AND WANT YOU TO KNOW
THAT I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU
WHEN YOU’RE DOWN, WHEN YOU’RE SAD
AND WHEN YOU NEED MY HELP
BECAUSE THIS IS FOR YOU
THIS SONG IS FOR YOU

I’m sorry your mother is so cranky. That must be difficult. Hugs!

One good thought about being in UK on Mother’s Day is that they have celebrated it in April 🤍

I love Sadje’s comment. You are too late for UK Mother’s Day – yay. Mom and I went to London together. What a great place to spend some time. It has much to offer even if she can’t enjoy it. You will love it. 🙂 Your poem is very sweet. It would make a nice greeting card. Have a great trip, Yinglan.

I used to avoid Mother’s Days like the plague. Not because of my mother, but I felt guilty getting flowers and cookies and not being a mother. I’ve lost that guilt. 🙂 More cookies anyone?
