Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #252: What’s Bugging You?

Happy Sunday! Donna from Wind Kisses is the lovely hostess for this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and we are talking about all kinds of bugs this week.

Sorry, I cannot recall what this is called. I think it’s a caterpillar. The only thing I know about this little buddy is it likes the Cottonwood trees in Capitol Reef National Park. It was where I took this photo when I last visited the park 2 years ago and it was the first thing I thought of when Donna mentioned “bug.”

I had quite a few “lucky” photos since I started taking photos because I don’t usually realize I’ve captured anything on camera until I sorted and processed the photos on my computer. This was one of them.

Ever since I found out about the cabbage looper last year, I began to be wary of the butterflies that enter my garden, especially this year when I got all the brassicas planted in one bed. It also makes me wonder if I captured a cabbage looper in this photo or is it just an innocent butterfly passing through my garden.

When I spent 4 months in China back in 2017, my aunt used to take me to her former boss’s ranch to get drinkable water. The countless hours I spent there were spent taking pictures. There was always something to see like flowers in bloom, domestic livestock, or a surprise like a butterfly. I have no idea whether this is a good butterfly or a pest but it certainly has an interesting pattern.

I cannot possibly end this post without mentioning this guy. He’s real, all right, 8 years ago.

Before I had to work from home due to the pandemic, I used to spend summers in the basement as it was at 10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler down there. Upstairs, even with the air-conditioning on, it’s still hot. The problem with moving down to the basement now is I would have to carry all my work equipment down there and back up during the winter as it gets freezing down there even with the heat on.

Another problem with the basement was my frequent encounters with this guy. Being half underground, pests like spiders make themselves guests in the perfectly cool environment during the summer. It’s gone during the winter month as it, too, doesn’t like the cold.

  1. A great collection Yinglan. Lucky spider to think you let him live. Anyway. love all the photos but great capture of the bug flying towards the flowers. And of course the butterflies generate a smile. Thanks for coming along.

    1. When I lived down there, I used to go to sleep every night praying I don’t wake up with a spider on any part of my body, gives me chills when I think about it.
