#SundayStills: #Historical and Significant

This week, on #SundayStills, Teri asks us to share something #historical.

I’m going to start by sharing one of my life’s significant moments and it was not easy to get there.

December 2016 marked an important turning point in my life. It was the second time I graduated from college with my second undergraduate degree. I bet not a lot of people can say they attended 2 college graduations and both of them were theirs. This marked an end to my 7-year college education. It was not easy, I can tell you that, and those struggles can be read on this blog. Just scroll back to read my 2016 posts…

By the end of the 7-year journey, I was more than ready for the next journey in life.

Last year, mom and I went on a trip to visit some of the US’s historical sites on the east coast. Some people travel to shop and eat, we travel to see and learn history. Call us crazy but what should 2 history lovers do on a travel expedition other than visit museums and try to walk in the shoes of those who came before us?

If you don’t know by now, I love US history and wished I had studied more of it when I was in school. Unfortunately, my first degree was in engineering and US history wasn’t on the list of required classes to take. On the trip, I visited Washington Crossing – a place in which marked a significant turning point in the war of Independence. As we walked toward to the bridge that crossed the Delaware River, where George Washington and his troops made the treacherous journey on Christmas night, 1776, I listened to mom narrate into her phone.

“It was a gamble,” she said. It was a risk to cross the river in the midst of a storm but it paid off because here we are, more than 2 centuries later, celebrating our independence and commemorating the bravery and action of the men who fought for the freedom of a country. ..
