Blogging Insights 3.0 #20 – First Words

This week’s Blogging Insights is a quote that spoke to me!

This is exactly how I write my stories and I love this process. My stories always start with a phrase or an image that pops up in my head. If it’s an image, then it’s up to me to interpret that image. Either way, that image turns into words.

In my opinion, I think outlining is a waste of time, especially when it comes to writing a story because it distracts the brain from telling the story it wants to tell. Basically, I feel like I’m telling the same story twice and there’s no way (in my opinion) the story is better the second time around or even be the same. Think of it like a rumor being spread around 10 people. It won’t be the same when the 10th person hear it.

The thing I love about not having an outline is, you never know where the story will take you. The plot changes all the time unlike having a strict outline where it states the outcome of each character and each plot. I don’t like that even though I think it’s a great tool to avoid plot holes. I like to be able to change the plot and the characters’ fates when I like without having to scrap and redo the outline. I like to be as engulfed in the plot of the story as the reader. I like to see the strange places my mind takes me with just images and a few words.
