Note: this is 100% fiction.
He loved this old car. I have tried to convince him to sell it and get something a little more 21st century. “Why, this is still a pretty decent ride,” was his response, “besides, do you know how much cars cost these days?”
“Do you know how much fuel cost these days?” I would retorted.
“Fuel-shmuel. It’ll never be as expensive as that monthly payment for a new car.”
One day, he pulled up to the curb in front of my house and he got out panting like he had just run a mile. “What? What is it?”
“I…can’t…wait…to…show…you.” He panted and led me to the passenger side of the car. He got into the driver side. “Ta da.” He ran his hand over the addition in the center console of the dashboard. “You told me to bring the car to the 21st century and…”
“…and you put in a cassette player. You know that no one listens to cassettes anymore, right?”
He held up a thin cord dangling below the cassette player. “I’m talking about this. Now you can plug this into your phone’s headphone jack and play music from your phone.” Except my phone didn’t have a headphone jack, those, too, are going away.

To be honest with you, I do miss the clicking sounds of car cassette player.
There’s just about it 🙂

I had a cassette player in my previous car but never used it since I couldn’t find any cassettes I like. My mom’s previous car had a CD player. I don’t miss that either since my CDs kept getting stuck in there. I like my current car because it connects to my phone, so my music choice is more or less unlimited.

I still miss my Joan Bias tape I left in England because my suitcase was already over the weight limit. But, what would I do with it now?

What is a cassette player? 😂 Just kidding. I remember my dad having an 8 track tape player but I’ll never admit it.

My first car had a cassette player. I couldn’t use it as cassettes have gone obsolete. This was a decade ago. My current car can only play through USB and bluetooth, so I would say it’s a huge upgrade from my previous car.
