Photo Challenge #481 – The Final Destination

“It looks so tiny,” he said when his mother showed him a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge she took when she went there when she was a teenager.

His mother laughed, “That’s because it was taken far away.”

“I want to go there someday to see it in person.”

In the summer before the start of college, he did what most teenagers did in movies. He and 3 friends splurged on an old beat-up Jeep and together, they dotted a paper map with places each of them wanted to see and one-by-one, through rain, burning sun, and hailstorms, they visited each of the places. As their itinerary wound down and their longing for home increased, he suggested, “Let’s visit one more place and then we’ll call it good.”

He pointed at the Golden Gate Bridge on the map and they agreed. One more and call it quits.

“Whoa,” the Golden Gate Bridge was nothing as he had imagined as he saw the gigantic structure through a chain-link fence.
