#WeekendCoffeeShare – Birthday in Osaka

Greetings once again from Japan! Thank you for meeting me again for this #WeekendCoffeeShare, I am currently in Osaka, near Shinsaibashi, where shopping and culinary adventures awaits.

If we were having coffee, which we most certainly are because coffee in Japan is way better (in my opinion) than any coffee in the world, I would tell you it’s already almost Sunday here and so is my birthday. I promise I’m not going to make a fuss about it because I’m not particularly looking forward to becoming one year older. I will tell you, though, I am looking forward to a very special birthday cake, which we shall find somewhere here in Osaka but first, check out that amazing sky taken at Dotonbori.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’ve had a great culinary adventure in Japan, trying quite a few different local cuisines within the country from Hokkaido-style ramen to Nagasaki veggie plate to the various bento boxes found in the grocery stores to Takoyaki in Osaka. Despite all the bodily pain I’ve suffered along the way, I’m glad I experienced this culinary adventure.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I went shopping and got a new camera lens in Osaka! To be honest, I didn’t have a particular lens in mind. The only thing I knew I didn’t want was another zoom lens.

I was actually surprised to find a lens that fit my camera. The new lens will be a member of my 6-lens crew. I couldn’t believe it until I counted out every camera lens I own so far. 6 lenses so far and they all have different uses. The newest lens is a 40 mm micro lens, used to take close-up pictures like of insects or flowers.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you this is my last weekend in Japan. In 4 days, I will be heading home and returning to a reality of 40-hour workweeks and preparing the garden for winter. I will also have to face the reality my aunt (mom’s youngest sister) will be home in a month, which will mean I will have to share my bathroom again and another person in the house and another bother.

As the trip winds down and comes to an end and as this might be the last evening I have to myself while mom is out with her friend, I thought I would take a moment to review some of the highlights and a few of my favorite photos of the trip so far.

  • Nature-bathing in Imperial Palace – Tokyo
  • Nature walk in Ueno Park and Meiji-Jingu temple
  • Seeing the beautiful blooming cosmos and other flowers in a garden near Lake Kawaguchiko and Mt. Fuji
  • Seeing Mt. Fuji
  • Wandering around small neighborhood streets and seeing the existence of garden in even the smallest places
  • The view of Kyoto atop Kiyomizu temple
  • The shiny gold exterior of Kinkafuji temple
  • The Arashiyama bamboo forest – truly a wonder
  • The deer in Nara Park – so cute and super photogenic
  • Toshodaiji Temple – a nature person’s paradise

#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

    1. Thank you.
It’s not that I’m not having fun, it’s my mom and the pain putting a damper on the fun. It just feels a little unnatural to be in a rush on vacation.
