#WeekendCoffeeShare – Getting Back to Yarning

Greetings! Thank you for joining me this Saturday, please come in and join me for a quick chat.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I really enjoyed the Halloween party at work this week. Even though the food wasn’t that great, I had fun and I think it’s all that matters. I was surprisingly good at Halloween trivia or I’m just good at making educating guesses. Either way, I made it into the top 3 and stayed there for a minute, that was until mom decided to call and distracted me. I didn’t answer her call but unfortunately, I was already distracted and disappeared into 6th place.

That call turned out to be mom asking me why there’s no internet at home, which after consulting an app, I discovered the culprit was because of outage. It also told me the internet won’t come back on for 2 hours. This also meant I was stuck at the office for the time being.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that after a quick hard freeze that killed most of the garden and with the daylight hours dipping below 10 hours on the 10th of November, there’s not much to do in the garden anymore, except going out to check on the ripening strawberries and water the lettuce and spinach (if needed). So I’ve returned to my winter hobby, which is crocheting. I bought a kit to try out knitting about 2 months ago, but decided knitting isn’t for me. I ended up returning the kit and instead, bought a few books on crochet.

I do apologize for the lighting of these photos. There’s not a decent lighting source in the house, no matter the time of day. It was the reason I had to also buy a crochet hook that lights up at night because I can’t see where I’m crocheting at night.

I find I quite enjoy making motifs because though they are difficult at times, I them to be more exciting than crocheting the same stitches over and over. I ended up making 4 different motifs and am currently working on connecting them together and making them into part of a blanket. One can never have too many blankets, right?

For this weekend though, I hope to finish this lovely cowl I’m making for myself. Every winter, I find my neck freezing cold, no matter how high up I zip my jacket. 2 years ago, I made myself a hat from a blend of wool yarn. That hat is warm, I tell you. So this year, I decided to make a cowl or a scarf made of wool.

Last week, I went online and bought some Merino Wool yarn, sourced from Australia. It’s expensive but I’m sure it will be worth it once I use it to make this cowl and a pair of gloves. I am liking this stitch pattern I found in one of the books I bought.

#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

  1. I’m so glad you’ve begun crocheting again and have been thinking about picking up my hooks again soon, too. I, too, enjoy the challenges of following certain patterns but also *really enjoy the quiet meditation found in duplicating the same stitch over and over again. Hope you have a great weekend and week ahead!

    1. Glad to virtually meet another crocheter. 🙂 I find that because I have difficulty concentrating, the complicated pattern forces me to focus on the details while if I am crocheting just to pass time while watching TV, I find the duplicated patterns works best. Thank you for visiting and have a great weekend. 😊

    1. 10 degrees??? I sure hope it won’t dip down to this kind of temperature again. I don’t think I can handle another brutal winter like the 2022-2023 season, when it went as low as 3F but 10 degrees is quite rare, probably every few years for a night or two in January but often, we just go as low as 20’s or teen’s. Still, wool can come in quite handy in this climate.
