Thoughts on Podcasts

I saw this prompt on Wednesday and it intrigued me, it asked: What podcasts are you listening to?

I don’t write much about the stuff I listen to on this blog very often. Perhaps, I should. Maybe it might be thought provoking in some way.

I have been listening to podcasts before they were made a popular medium during the pandemic. In fact, I dipped my toes into podcasting back in 2016, recorded a total of 2 episodes before giving up entirely. I couldn’t find the time and space to record. Background noises – Mom’s YouTube watching, furnace cranking in the basement, traffic outside, and planes zooming overhead.

Then, there’s the editing – removing background noises, adding music, amplifying my own voice, etc. There’s a lot of work that goes into making a podcast. I decided it would be better if I just stuck to penning my stories on a single medium – this blog.

So what podcasts am I listening to?

I listen to a lot of podcasts in a wide variety of topics. My current podcast topics are gardening, homesteading, history, business, self-improvement, food, and humor. Everyday, I get my subscribed podcast episodes in a playlist and then I put on my headphones and put it on autoplay. I can’t name a favorite as I like them all equally, though the one that’s standing out is the Roots and Refuge Podcast. It’s a podcast about lots of things, like this blog and in some ways, I find it relatable.

It’s strange to say but listening to podcasts and books at work keeps my ever drifting brain focused at the task at hand. I think I get more done when I’m listening to podcasts than not and amazingly, as divided as my attention is, I can actually pay attention to both.

As for making podcasts, to be honest, I’d love to get behind that microphone again but I just can’t the time to do it, though it remains a possibility.

  1. Every content creator seems to create podcast these days … and I still can’t see the appeal 😂 Nonetheless, I listen to a lot of podcasts; my favorite is 99% Invisible. As for yours, I think you have a nice voice and a good storytelling skill. Maybe you can find a quieter place or time to record your podcasts in the future?
