Saturday Mix #StoryStarter – The Crash

The waves lapped at the shore and she wondered how long she had until they would come for her, to rescue her from this place, and learn of her fiancé’s fate.

Part of her wished she hadn’t come on this trip in the first place. So what if it’s Maui? So what if her fiancé was so rich that he didn’t had to book anything in advance and that he could snap his fingers and have private jets at beck-and-call?

The night before, they were about an hour away from their destination when they were hit by turbulence caused by a storm. The small plane bobbed up and down and side to side so violently that even with the seatbelt tightly fastened, she found her body bouncing up and down on the seat. “Are we going to be okay?” She asked.

“Don’t worry, honey.” Her fiancé flashed an assuring smile. “We are in the best hands.”

With a sharp gasp, she bolted upright into a sitting position. She was on the beach, still in the white buttoned shirt and capris shorts she wore on the plane. Around her, metal pieces – big and small – were bobbing its way to shore. Shielding her eyes, she searched for her luggage and fiancé but both were nowhere to be seen.

As she got up to search for her suitcase and future husband, images of the crash replayed in her head. “Dennis!” She screamed her fiancé’s name as tears began to fill her eyes, fearing for the worst. “Dennis!” She screamed again and fell to her knees.
