As this year is ending, what excites you?
Before I answer the question, I should say that I’m the type of person who gets excited at the idea of doing something fun or accomplishing something great, but deep down, I’m actually terrified of actually the task. Like this upcoming road trip and all the trips in the past, I like the idea but the “actually doing it” part terrifies me.
Back to the question: As this year is ending, what excites you?
I write this on my blog each year as it ends – that I’m hopefully good things will come in the new year and I am excited for this year to end and the next to begin. What am I excited about? I can never say. There are so many (perhaps too many) things swirling inside my head to the point that I have difficulty deciphering.
One thing that definitely excites me though is the start of a new gardening season. I will not only have more room to seed start indoor but I will also have more room to play with outdoors. I will be starting seeds as early as the middle of January as I want to transplant some of the cold-tolerant brassicas (like kale and broccoli) as early as mid-February to avoid another caterpillar infestation as I had in 2023.
The most daunting thing of 2024 will be setting up the drip irrigation for the new areas and fixing the drip irrigation in some of the existing areas. I have been researching on possible fixes for this problem but so far, I’m not yielding any solutions and I have a feeling I’ll have water some of the new areas manually.
The other thing that excites me is the idea of another road trip, although actually doing it is another thing entirely as I wrote in the first paragraph. I don’t know where I want to go yet but I do want it to be another solo road trip. I find that I learn more, see more, and produce better photograph when I’m alone as I’m not being rushed.
We shall see what the new year brings.

I love your honesty Yinglan. Many people are apprehensive of new things and experiences but they don’t admit it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I hour your road trip and gardening venture are a success.

Thank you. I tend to have to keep my anxieties and fears bottled up in real life, which makes me even more anxious, so it’s nice to have a place to unburden those things in my blog.
