Dear readers, the story I’m about to tell you may be too unbelievable to be true but I assure you, this did happen thanks to my mother – the enchantress.

“Abby? Is that you?” Unbelievable, I can’t believe it worked.

The little girl was smiling the same smile that’s been seared into my memory ever since the accident as she came running toward me and wrapping her arm around my torso. “I’ve missed you, mom.”

12 Hours before…

“Are you sure you want to do this?” My mother asked as she pushed open the large heavy doors to my father’s study. From the bookshelf, she pulled an ancient-looking book and plopped it open on the lectern in the middle of the room.

I nodded, holding back my tears. “I have to, mom. I can’t get over her. She was my world. It was never meant to happen.” Before I could fight back the tears, it came flooding from my eyes.

My mother wrapped me in an embrace. “I understand, my dear,” she sighed, “no mother should have to get over her daughter’s death.”

“I’ve missed you, too, sweetie.” I get down on my knees to look at my little girl. She’s just the same as I remember her in her bright yellow dress. She had always reminded me of the sunshine. You have 24 hours with her, my mother’s voice echoed in my head, make the most of it. “So what do you do today?”

“Your eyes are red, mommy, have you been crying?”

“Yes, I’m crying because I’m happy to see you. Now, let’s go up to the house for some breakfast. I’m sure grandma wants to see you.”

Dear readers, I can’t begin to describe the happiness I felt during those precious 24 hours when my daughter returned and though I still ended up losing her as she faded into the sunset, I felt happy for the first time since her departure from this earthly plane because of the knowledge that she’ll be around, watching over me, and waiting for me to join when the time is right.
