#Bloganuary 2024 Prompt Day 13

Think back on your most memorable road trip.

I often wonder if I hadn’t moved to Utah, would I enjoy going on road trips if I were to stayed in Los Angeles or Austin? Would I had enjoyed natural landscapes? Would I had even discovered my love for photography?

With that said, I think every one of my road trip so far has been memorable in one way or another. Instead of picking one, I’ll list my top four most memorable road trips.

#1 – Christmas Road Trip – 2023

5-and-a-half days of driving, seeing the red rocks foundations in southern Utah and northern Arizona while experiencing solitude. How can this trip not be memorable? It was the single best Christmas and road trip. There cannot anything better other than I wish it lasted longer.

#2- Capitol Reef National Park – 2018

This was my first solo road trip. I was a nervous wreck and somewhat tried to sabotage the trip by sleeping in. Mom was in Hong Kong for a work conference at the time, which was what made the Labor Day trip possible.

I booked the hotel and car for the trip 2 months before and it would be a 2-day trip. I didn’t have a smart phone with GPS back then. All I had was a flip phone that cost a pretty penny to call and text with no data and a tablet that required wi-fi to work. I don’t know how I got there without the help of GPS or a map but I got there.

#3 – Highway 12 Road Trip – 2021

Highway 12 is a 100-mile highway in central Utah, spanning from Capitol Reef National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park. It was named the “All-American Highway” in 2002 and it’s one of the most beautiful scenic byway in the US. I drove my own car for this trip with my aunts and uncle.

The trip was 4 days and though I wish I could’ve gone alone, the scenery more than made up to have a car fully of annoying passengers asking the stupidest questions along the way. One day, I will have to revisit this place alone and enjoy driving every inch of that twisty road.

#4 – US – Canadian Rockies – 2017

This has to be the longest road trip to-date. It was about 2 weeks – a week in the Canadian Rockies before heading to South Dakota for Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse before ending up in Yellowstone. I did the longest drive to-date – 12 hours straight up north on Interstate 15 from my home to the first town in Canada – Lethbridge.

My aunt drove the Canadian leg of the trip while I did the US leg. Thankfully, the rental car had a decent GPS. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how I would’ve navigated the journey with a flip phone and a tablet that barely worked. That tablet failed a few months later and resulted in me buying a brand-new tablet.
