Six Sentence Story: Heart

She could feel her heart pounding as if it would jump out of her chest and palms sweating profusely like she’s about to make a toast as she sat across from him, examining him in his expensive black suit while feeling under-dressed for the setting despite donning her best dress gown, “what’s the occasion?” she asked.

He smiled, walked over, took her left hand in his, and got down on one knee. She gulped and tried to force a smile on her face, knowing where this was going as he presented her with a bright red box. In the box was his grandmother’s wedding ring – silver band with a ruby heart-shaped pendant in the middle – “Will you give me your heart if I give you mine and be my eternal love?”

Her right hand flew over her mouth, whether to hold back a sob or a laugh, one could never tell, but instead of blurting, “yes,” she just nodded.

“Yes?” he wanted to confirm.

She nodded again before removing her hand from her mouth and mustering a “yes,” as he slipped the ring on her thin finger.
