Six Sentence Story: Pass

“Oh, won’t you please be my fake date to the prom, Melody, please, it will make my exes so jealous,” Simon said, his hands pressed together in his classic begging manner while he was showing me his braces-free perfectly aligned teeth smile, begging, “please…”

I sighed, “Simon, I thank you for considering me to be cool enough for a fake date but,” I scrunched my face, “prom just isn’t my thing, sorry, it’s hard pass for me.”

I slammed my locker shut and began walking down the hall, Simon followed and almost ran into me when I suddenly stopped, “Wait the minute, ‘exes’?” For as long as Simon and I’ve been friends, I’ve never known him to be the dating type, the way he dressed in his tight-fitting khakis and dressed shirts, what kind of person would be into that?

I narrowed my eyes and crossed my arms, “Simon, name one of your ‘exes’.”

Simon struggled with ums and ahs before finally blurting, “Okay, fine, I don’t have any exes but wouldn’t it be fun to watch a nerd like me entering the room with a girl like you or will you rather pass on the fun of helping your best friend fulfill his high school of making the student body jealous and sit at home eating cheetos and watching horror flicks on Prom night?”

Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “Pass“.
