Please note: this is 100% fiction!
Sister Rosalinda hurried along the corridor, careful not to jostle the baby in her arms too much as the baby’s face looked like she would wail at any moment. “Shh, don’t cry, little one. Don’t worry, I’ll find a home for you here.” Dios mio, she thought, what kind of evil person would do this to this poor child and her mother?
*****
The night before, the mother had shown up at the gate of the convent with her baby wrapped protectively in her arms. It had been raining and the mother made sure her baby was not wet from the rain. The Sisters took them in immediately and put the mother in a bed in the infirmary. At that point, the mother was not looking well. She was running a temperature and was delirious.
Sister Margaret deduced the mother never recovered from birthing her child before she was bruised and beaten. “Poor child,” she said with sorrow.
“What shall we do with the infant in the meantime?” Sister Elizabeth asked.
“Fetch Sister Rosalinda,” Sister Margaret requested, “she’ll know what to do. After all, she was a mother once upon a time.”

Such a moving story Yinglan. This can be the opening chapter of a longer story. Thanks for joining in.

Wow, this is a great story starter. I’d keep this one on file to work towards something longer. 🙂
