It seems like spring is coming later and later each year, although judging from the pictures from last March, it appears this March has been a little better than the last.
I fully thought spring would at last come in March and that everything would start growing again. Instead, all I got was 70 mile/hour wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures, stunting most of my vegetable seedlings. I still had plenty of harvest, though, from the seeds I planted last autumn and letting it grow through the winter. The taste of vegetables after surviving frost after frost is absolutely priceless.
Many of the perennials have started popping their heads above the soil after a couple of days in the 60’s-degree-Fahrenheit range and one of the plum trees has even started to flower. There were days in March when I felt my plants felt more optimistic than I was that spring was in the air because all I saw were gloomy skies and rain clouds in the forecast but I guess plants know about this kind of thing more than me.

I can’t say there was much going on in March, mostly just work and trying to refrain from spending money. Money has been tight since the beginning of the year because after losing phone service during my road trip in December, I was forced to pay off my phone and switch to a more reliable carrier but my pevious phone carrier had forced me to stay for one more month before getting my phone unlocked. I finally switched at the end of February but then my new phone carrier messed up the bill and I finally got that fixed over the weekend.
Then, there’s the fact that the family seems to think I’m rich, saying I should stop trying to save money and spend it while I can. I hate that mentality because I grew up poor with my mom pinching every penny. I never knew how to just shop and buy things that aren’t essential to my life.

I visited a new city in March – Malad, Idaho – a town about 13 miles from the Utah-Idaho border along interstate 15. I didn’t do much research before visiting because I thought the mission was to buy some Powerball tickets. I didn’t win, by the way, but I would definitely visit again.

Some of the most fun I had in March was during the team activity last Friday when we went bowling, axe throwing, and arcade playing. In the past, I’ve always had trouble getting the axe to land on the board. This time, I finally got a couple to land, not on the bulls eye but it’s good enough for me.
Things to look forward in April…
I’m looking forward to hopefully finally seeing my crops start to grow. I have a few crops with a 30-35 days maturity but so far they have been growing closer to 60 days as the result of the cold temperature. I hope the weather will finally warm up a little bit so I can take the greenhouse plastic off the raised beds so the plants can get some sun.
There’s always that one day in April when I would wake up to find all the flowers blooming. I’m always looking forward to that day and the day when I visit the state capitol to see the annual cherry blossom. It was the 23rd of April in 2023 and 18th of April in 2022. I wonder when it will be in 2024.
There’s a new person at work starting today. I hope to meet him when I head into the office this week and looking forward to working with him.
Finally, it’s April. You know what that means, A-Z challenge. I hope you enjoy my A-Z challenge this year.

Wishing lovely and wonderful April 🙂
