#WeekendCoffeeShare – Hello June 2024!

Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, let’s grab a ice cold drink (caffeinated or not) and welcome June.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’ve been welcoming each month with a quote like this one because I want to start the month off on a positive note. I know I’ve been a negative now and then but I have been trying hard this year to smile and be more positive. I feel I succeed at this sometimes while other times… not so much.

If we were having coffee, I would give you a quick recap on May, or as much as I can remember. Lately, I feel like I’ve been forgetting stuff. I would be doing something and would be wondering what I was going to do a minute later. Maybe it’s the stress of all the bills looming ahead or maybe it’s the stress of living my mom and aunt.

Looking at the photos, May is starting to feel like a jam-packed month. Maybe that’s why I can’t remember much. It’s too long. My strawberries began to ripen. A couple of strawberries turned into a dozen and turned into a large bowl. I’ve been cutting up the strawberries and putting them into my yogurt, there’s nothing better than fresh fruit.

What else? Peonies and roses have begun to bloom in my front garden as well as the wildflowers I sowed in late February have also begun to bloom, creating a dream-like meadow in the back garden. I have always wanted a meadow because those only seem to exist in movies. I’ve never seen it on any of my hikes.

My potatoes are going gang-busters and I have a feeling it’s almost ready to harvest. I have been harvesting veggies all month long and one of the cabbage heads is finally ready to harvest. I’m actually going to wait a few more days on this to see if the head will firm up a little bit more.

I visited a few of my old stomping grounds to get some photos of spring in action.

May’s weather was turbulent and it never really felt like spring until the last week or so. There was even snow in the first week of May. Thankfully, I hadn’t transplanted my tomatoes into the ground. I remember every time the temperature dropped, somewhere in my body would begin to ache.

May ended with the loss of a cucumber plant and bean plant. I woke up on the 31st to find the top of a cucumber plant chewed off. Pesky insects! Immediately, I dusted the soil with blood and bone meal along with an insect dust. Hopefully the bugs will smell the blood and bone and stay away. I tell you, I had the same problem last year.

Now, what to look forward for June?

My mom is heading to China at the end of the month, which will give me about 3 weeks of alone time with my aunt. Part of me wants to jump on the travel bandwagon and take some time off to go somewhere but then what will happen to the garden? There’s also the fact that money is super tight this year and I seem to have a pet on a leash (aka my aunt) who must go everywhere I go. I might do a day trip or two while my aunt’s at work. Hopefully June will be good month.

I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

    1. My strawberries grow both in the sun and in shade. The ones growing in the shade are actually getting more delicious as the temperature rise. It also may have to do with the amount of water. More water means plump berries.

      1. I think it does depend on multitudes of factors, like the strawberries in my front garden are not as good as the ones in the back.
