Sunday Poser #189 – Blogging Break?

Why do some bloggers when going on a blogging break/ hiatus, never return? When you take a break what do you do to keep your blog going?

How do you keep the interest alive in your blog when you’re not able to blog actively? How do you feel when people disappear without an explanation from WP?

First of all, I would apologize if you started reading my blog as of late, I feel my posts have been somewhat subpar (at least by my standards). You can say I’ve been on a somewhat of a retreat from the blog.

The truth is, with just a week before my mom’s return, I’ve been tackling garden projects non-stop. Of my 5-day break from work, I was working on garden project for 3 of the days and I’m not talking about a few hours. It’s from 9 AM to 5 PM kind of projects and it’s the kind my mom would never in a million years let me do. I wonder how she will react when she see the changes.

As of yesterday, I still have one last project outstanding, well, half really since I got half of it completed.

When I become distracted by real world problems, blogging will automatically go to the back burner. It was what happened in 2019 and 2020 when I blogged sporadically and even stopped. In 2019, the family had just immigrated to the US and for a time, all of them were crammed into my house. All of a sudden, my house of 2 occupants became a house of 8. You can certainly picture the chaotic situation, at least I hope you can.

At that point, I’ve been blogging non-stop for 6 years and amidst the chaos, I guess I kinda just forgot about the blog. The thing that brought me back was my 10-year high school reunion. Seeing everyone happy with family and kids caused me to have thoughts, lots of them as you can imagine by reading my blog – I’m single with a mom and an aunt who live with me. Seeing my classmates made me feel sad and since I had no one to share my thoughts, I turned to my blog.

I left the blogging world again in 2020 because of all the anxiety and uncertainty. I don’t do well with uncertainty and so many things were uncertain at that point as we dealt with the pandemic. I don’t exactly know what drew me back. I began writing again sporadically at first before the posting became more consistent. I don’t think I’ve stopped since especially now that my blog has a official domain and I paid for 3 years of service with WP, so I have to keep going to get my money worth. 😄

Lastly, I don’t hold it against people for leaving the blogging world. After all, we all have lives outside of the internet and sometimes, real life matters take precedence. If I ever need a break, I will just stick to 1 post a day and only do the easy stuff, just as I’ve done lately.

  1. A lot of great blogs I follow have been on extended hiatus, and it makes me sad. But then I have to remind myself that I also stopped blogging in 2019-2020 (for different reasons). Everyone has personal things they’re dealing with, so I can’t be mad at that. Glad your projects are going well!
