Six Sentence Story: Wire

Please note that this is a work of fiction!

“You have 30 seconds to disarm this device,” a voice said in my right ear.

I looked over at my partner and knew he heard that, too, “30 seconds,” I said, “can you do it?”

“Shh,” he shushed me and carefully opened the device – a small black box with a countdown timer – connected to the timer was a series of wires – red, green, yellow, and blue – “one of them will stop the timer,” he whispered.

“Which one?” I asked.

He shushed me again as he pulled the world’s tiniest pair of scissors from his vest pocket and pointed it at the wires, “Eeny Meeny Miny Moe,” he turned and saw the reaction on my face before a laugh bubbled, telling me he was playing with me.

Man, do I hate that, “You better know what you’re doing.”
