How well do you sleep at night? Any tips for getting a good night’s sleep that you’d care to share?
How is your sleep routine? Do you need some sleeping to fall asleep at night? Any tips for sleeping well you’d like to share?
My sleep has been hits and misses for the last few years but it’s been especially bad in the last few months, after my aunt moved back into the spare bedroom next to mine. The last time I remember having the best night sleep was, strangely, during my road trip last December. I was either tired from the long day of driving or I was finally sleeping without disturbance.
I have to say the best night of sleep was Christmas Eve 2023. It was the third night of the road trip, I was on my own in a tiny motel room along Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona. Despite the motel was adjacent to the busy Route 66 and a railway, which passenger and freight trains run past once every hour or so, nothing disturbed me from my sleep. I slept for about 10 hours before I took off on my trip again.
I think my sleep quality has decreased in the last few months because no one in the house cares about my wellbeing. My mom and aunt sometimes would wake up early and they would talk loudly as if I wasn’t still sleeping in my room. They still seem to think I can sleep like I was a child.
I have become so angry with them in the last few weeks because I’ve been feeling like they don’t care about me at all. All they do is eat, complain, and sleep. They will only take out the trash but no one will take the extra 30 seconds to walk over to mailbox to grab the mail nor will they help me water the front garden nor pull the weed. Yet, they made fun of me for being a “farmer” because I’m simply maintaining the garden.
I ignore my aunt most of these days because all she does is either ask ridiculous questions like why is there bird poop on the mailbox or she’ll talk like a child. Not to offend anyone, I feel like she’s someone who belongs in a mental hospital.
I’m afraid I don’t have any tips on how to get a good night sleep as I’m trying to get some these days, if I can.

I’m so sorry my friend that people in your family don’t pay much attention to your needs. Hugs.

I feel if they weren’t living in my house, I wouldn’t care so much. I guess if you’re staying in someone’s house, you would help out, right? It feels like it’s just basic ettiquette.

Yes indeed, common courtesy and manners.

I’m sorry, Yinglan, that you have been feeling that your mom and aunt don’t care about you and your wellbeing.

Some people can be so inconsiderate and ignorant. We had someone cutting their front grass yesterday at 6.30am, the same guy who lights smelly bonfires during the day when people have got their washing out.

I do sometimes wonder if a better solution to buy some pills to help me sleep. I’ve already tried melantonin and it doesn’t work.

You have to be very careful with those. They can have long-term side effects. Maybe earplugs?

It’s not the noise that’s bothering me, it’s my inability to still asleep in the middle of the night. My mind has this tendency to jolt me awake at around 3 or 4 AM, which is very annoying.
