What was the last photograph you took?
Looking at my phone’s photo gallery, I took this picture Friday night after I harvested a bunch of pickling cucumber from the garden, cut them in half, and stuffed them into a glass jar ready for the vinegar mixture to be poured in to begin the pickling process.
If you’re curious, I mix together half cup of water, 1/3 cup of 22-25% vinegar, and half cup of apple cider vinegar with half cup of sugar, and a pinch of salt along with a pinch of pickling spice. This is for a 32 fluid-ounce jar.
I bought the 22-25% vinegar originally to kill weeds but it turned out I didn’t need that much. So pickle it was. I also never buy pickles in the store, after finding out none was as sour as my homemade stuff.
When was your last field trip?
By field trip, do you mean day trip? Field trip are usually associated with elementary and middle school and I haven’t been in those schools in decades. My last trip was actually two weekends ago when I visited the local botanical garden.
What is your favorite past time as an adult?
It’s hard to say since I enjoy doing a variety of things at different times of the year like crochet during the winter, garden during spring through fall, photography, and writing stories. I enjoy all those things and cannot pick a favorite.
Do people ask you for advice?
The only people who come to me for advice are typically my mom’s siblings. I often offer gardening advice to my aunt who wants to grow her own veggies but won’t invest in quality soil. I, frankly, don’t know how to grow anything in the heavy clay since I grow my edibles in raised beds and ground beds with new soil.
My mom also asks me for advice but I’m not sure if she’s ever listened to my advice before running off with her mouth.

Homemade pickles are the best.

Thanks for joining in again this week. We call our shopping trips field trips as we travel to a different town. Field trips in my school days were always classed as school outings. It always amazes me how different countries see things differently!

Ah, I see. It amazes me, too, to see how different countries say the same things differently, despite it’s still English.

I like the photo of your cucumbers from your garden! Enjoyed your pickling insights. My favorite pickle is dill. I’d say with that many cucumbers you have a successful garden season! ❤️
