#WeekendCoffeeShare – Savoring being 32 in the garden

Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, please still feel free to come on in and have a drink and a chat.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you Mother Nature is such a tease. After a few days of fall-like weather (in the low 80’s and upper 70’s-degree-Fahrenheit) , summer had reared its head, making temperatures climb back into the low 90’s-Fahrenheit (30-Celsius). What’s worst is that no one in the house cared my room is the warmest room in the house, and once temperatures climbed even in the mid-80’s, my room would become an oven, ready to bake its occupant alive. I was in the office that day and when I got home, no one said anything.

Of course, since my aunt didn’t have to work that day and with nothing to do, she just did her usual of spend the day sleeping or lying on her bed watching videos.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you this is my birthday month. I’ll be turning 33 in a few weeks. So I’m savoring my last few weeks as a 32-year-old even though there’s nothing special (in my opinion) between being 32 and 33.

Meanwhile, I think turning 33 kinda stroked my mom’s ego because she kept saying if she hadn’t brought me to the US, I would be on my death bed right now since the doctors predicted I wouldn’t survive past age 33 without some kind of aid to help my body metabolize calcium. It makes her seem like a hero this way.

I was born without the bodily function to metabolize and utilize calcium. My mom blames my dad for this glitch (or is it mutation) but who do I get to blame? Oh wait, I don’t, I have to spend hundreds of dollars on prescription drugs each year to keep my body functioning.

But I can’t complain about neither the temperature in my room nor about the other stuff because in this household, complaining and ranting can only be done by one person and that’s my mom. That is not to say I can’t do it. I’m just never in the mood for one of my mom’s long, annoying, and tedious lectures about not getting through a single day without having to give me a lecture.

Hey, it’s your choice, no one asked you to react so badly to everything that don’t come out of your mouth.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you the garden has become a little more productive in the last few weeks after the temperature is no longer 95-degree and above. I’m finally getting some Scarlet Runner Beans and the Kentucky pole beans are finally producing. I have been waiting for my pole beans all summer.

I like them more than bush beans because I find them to be more tender despite not picking them when they are young. With bush beans, you can’t let them sit on the plant without them turning tough on you.

My yellow zucchinis are coming to fruition. I am not a fan of these bat-size ones. I prefer them smaller but this is the size my mom prefers, so be it. My cucumbers are also finally looking like how they’re supposed to be, none of those weird pollination problems that caused my cucumbers to curl unnaturally as I’ve been having in the previous months.

I now have 3 jars of pickles. Can you believe it? 3 Jars! Well, 2 large jars and 1 small jar. Still. I never thought I would have a successful pickle cucumbers harvest this year given that I didn’t start these cucumbers until July. I was surprised by the minimal pollination problems I experienced with these cucumbers. I guess the stern talking to with my cucumber plants helped.

Basically, I told my plants to buck up. I guess they heard me.

I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

  1. Your garden is making great progress!

My room is the warmest in our house, so I can somewhat relate, even though I am sure it is much warmer in your room. Hang in there, it is going to get cooler soon. ❤

  2. Many happy returns to you on your birth month.
As for the swinging temperatures, you’re not the only one who is going through such. The worldwide hot temperatures are on new levels, so it would be great to prepare ourselves in advance.
But at least your garden is doing great. Keep up the spirits of your green buddies 🙂
