Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, please still feel free to come on in and have a drink and a chat.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you at this time last year, I would be on a plane on my way to Japan! Can you believe it’s been a year already? Although I was in pain for much of the trip due to rheumatoid arthritis, I still enjoyed the nature walks.
It has also been one year since I converted part of the lawn into a garden. To be honest, it started pretty slowly at first. I suspect it’s because of the soil. I should’ve mixed in some good soil before planting in the spring. I think the performance will get better starting next year. You can see the asparagus in the cinder block bed is just now taking off, producing these ferns that would tickle me every time I try to clear weeds on the other side of the bed.
Meanwhile, it’s mostly fall crops in the metal raised bed. I have a total of 2 raised bed completely dedicated to fall gardening. Those 2 beds will have protection during the winter. So even though some crops will be halting growth after day length dips below 10 hours, they would be protected until they are ready to grow again.

As the weather cools off, the Scarlet runner beans are finally producing beans. All summer long, all they produced were these red flowers that attracted hummingbirds to the garden but no beans. I’m practicing the no-dig/no-till method for this bed to see if it is better than the conventional method.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’m still in pain after reseeding the lawn last weekend. Meanwhile, after 5 days of watering, it looks like there’s germination.
My body heals very slowly these days. If I ask my doctor, they will probably give me a one-word answer – Lupus. Why not? Blame everything on Lupus, whatever that is.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you my mom is having surgery next week. She said the surgery’s supposed to fix whatever is wrong with her back. She’s supposed to have to stay at the hospital for 2 days for observations.
So that might mean I get another break.
I’m trying to decide what I’m going to do before I have to spent however long helping my mom perform basic tasks like put on her shoes and anything that involves bending low. Nah… it might just be a normal week around here.
I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

Lawn looks promising.
