I had a minor mishap last night. I slipped in the tub as I was cleaning out the hair and soap scum out of the drain strainer. I knew the tub would be slippery as I had just showered and had the last of that darn conditioner covering the floor of the tub. I swear I’m not buying that conditioner again.
Anyway, I was cleaning the strainer when I slipped on a the conditioner and down I went, hitting my head against the faucet. “Damn it!” I swear a bunch of expletives before getting up and shutting off the water, by which my mom had burst into the room. Thank goodness I was fully clothed.
It was then I noticed the pain in my left hand. My left hand has already been hurting for the last couple of days since my CPR training on Tuesday. What was really hurting was my pinkie. I looked down at my pinkie and it had already begun swelling up. I tried to test it but it hurt so much. Is it broken? I wondered. Can I not move my finger because it’s swollen or because it’s broken?
Meanwhile, my mom was being reactive as always, screaming at me instead of helping me. “Why didn’t you ask for help?” She asked.
I knew exactly why I didn’t ask for help. Would she had helped me? Probably but I would have to listen to her drone on and on about me making her do everything. No, I was not in the mood for that. Beside, how hard could it be? I cleaned this once a week.
I’m now sitting at my laptop typing this post. It’s been almost 2 hours since the fall. My mom put some kind of Chinese ointment on my pinkie and it did not make me feel better. Instead, I took a couple of Ibuprofen and ran it under cold water and it seemed to had helped. I also applied a cold compress on the finger and that seemed to had helped too.
Do I still think it’s broken? Nah, I think it’s a sprain because the pain level has gone down, there’s no bruising, no severe pain, and I can make a fist. I heard someone once say, “if it’s really broken, you wouldn’t be moving about.”
I am having trouble hitting the keys with my pinkie. I can hit the keys, it just hurts.
I guess if the pain becomes severe, I can always go to urgent care and get an X-ray to make sure I haven’t really damaged anything.

Take care and keep an eye on the swelling.

I hope that pinkie is going to get back to normal in a couple of days.

Get well soon. I looks very uncomfortable!

Thank you.
It is uncomfortable, having to work with just 8 functioning fingers since I ended up buddy-taping my pinkie and ring fingers together. It doesn’t make typing emails fun.

That explains why I haven’t heard much from you recently. I’m so sorry. Heal fast. Don’t respond to this – save your fingers for important stuff! 🙂 xxxxxx

Haha! Thankfully, I’m using my phone to reply to this comment, no need for my injured left hand. 😄

Ow! That does look painful. Ice / cold compress should help and it’s encouraging that you can move it. However, I am no expert and if the swelling doesn’t go down and it’s still painful, I think you should get it looked at.

The ice helped, so was running my hand under cold water. The internet says if the swelling doesn’t go down in a week, then go see a doctor.

Maybe if it wasn’t the holiday season, a week would be doable, but getting to see a doctor could be a while as surgeries are closed. Take care.

There’s something called “insta-care”, there may be only a few doctors available and the wait-time may be hours but it’s always available but I wouldn’t use it unless it’s totally necessary.

That’s good. We have an urgent treatment centre 20 miles away and an A&E (ER) 28 miles away. Wait time is horrendous and you can lose at least a whole day waiting.

I had almost a twelve hour wait when I had appendicitis in February. I was lucky they could find me a bed after diagnosis, but it was the worst five days of my life, and had nothing to do with the operation.

Wow, glad you were okay after that long wait.
