Happy Saturday! Welcome to another WeekendCoffeeShare! Come on in and let’s get you something hot or cold (your choice). As always, thank you to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting our weekly Saturday shindig.
This week was another incredibly busy week at work. It’s almost as if everyone is suddenly back at work and realized they need to reply to emails sent a year ago. I felt so frustrated.
I also started training my co-worker to do my tasks when I go on my trip in 2 weeks. I can’t believe it, 2 weeks from today, I would be on a plane to Taiwan.
On the bright side, I finally feel like my seedlings are back on track this week, a for the ones that are still alive and kicking anyway. I ended up needing to re-sow the seeds for the herbs and flowers.
Growing flowers and herbs has never been my strong suit. Though many say growing flowers and herbs are easier than vegetables because they are not as finicky about temperatures, such as they won’t bolt on you when the weather gets too hot.
I beg the differ. I feel vegetables are the less finicky of the bunch.
At the moment, I would say about 50% of the seedlings had gone on to a better world.
This is a new kale variety I am planting this year – Portuguese kale. This is one of the seedlings I am still trying to revive. It’s not looking so great, is it. I have already re-sowed some seeds, hopefully, it will germinates soon. I also had to re-sow the seeds for the Dwarf-blue Kale, which is also not looking so good.
Right now, I only hope they will have grown enough for me to transplant after I return from my trip in March.
Thankfully, I don’t have to depend anyone to water my seedlings while I’m gone. I switched my seedlings to a self-watering seed-starting system, which will help keep the soil moist for 2 weeks. I have the next 2 weeks to test, hopefully, it works. To be honest, if my aunt is not going to Japan the same week my mom and I are going to Taiwan, I probably would not need to switch to a self-watering system.
Who am I kidding?
Of course I do! I can’t seem to trust anyone in the family to take care of my plants, especially my mom, who I can’t, at the moment, imagine would be able to walk so much on the trip without complaining of pain. I just hope she will let me roam on my own.
Until next we chat…

Good luck with the Portuguese Kale seedlings/ I hope they are well protected from the cabbage white butterflies which lay eggs on the leaves. Who is looking after your seed babies while you are away on holiday?

Thank you. Once I plant out the brassicas, they will usually be covered with insect netting along with a spray of BT.
Well, no one is looking after my plant babies, at least, not until the 11th when my aunt returns from her trip to Japan. I have been preparing for it because I’ve known all along that no one will be looking after them. So I have been trying out a self-watering seed starter tray, hopefully, it will keep everything watered until I return.
