WeekendCoffeeShare – Hello March 2025!

Happy Saturday! Welcome March 2025! And welcome Spring! As always, a big thanks to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare.

February has one of my least favorite months next to January and all those winter months where I can’t really go outside. However, I was surprised by how productive I was this February. I was also surprised by how busy work was, especially this week.

Yesterday, when I got off work, I felt like I just finished running a marathon, despite taking half of the day off on Thursday. I had to take it off in order to finish setting up the garden.

I added a total of 8 grow bags to the front yard to advantage of the year-round gardening opportunity due to the microclimate created by the rocks and the southern Sun.

This is the before and after. It makes the yard look less empty, doesn’t it? I did a mirror pattern of 3 grow bags on each side of the path – a 50-gallon and 2 25-gallon grow bags. I could have chosen to go with a 100-gallon grow bag but I needed some separation and I feel like I can grow more with 3 separate grow bags as opposed to one.

I set up the trellis last night and sowed some snow peas into the gray grow bags. Hopefully, by the time I return from my vacation, it will be up and climbing the trellis.

I cannot believe next Saturday, I will be on the plane halfway around the world. I will be in Taipei, Taiwan. I can already tell I will be thinking of my garden. I will be worrying about my seedlings and leaving the plastic over the raised beds. I really hope they will be okay or maybe before now and Friday, I will think of a clever way to vent the plastic so the plants don’t burn because it gets quite hot underneath the plastic.

I honestly feel like it’s the worst time to be traveling because I have seedlings that are ready to be planted out but I won’t because there’s no supervision. I just hope the weather will hold for the next few weeks.

This weekend will probably be the last weekend I can do any pre-spring garden preparations like fruit tree fertilization and any pruning that’s not done. I pruned these volunteer pansies last week. It popped up around last October and it’s lived through the entire winter. The only reason I had to trim it was it was growing into a strawberry plant. It’s wonderful to see some blooming flowers when it’s still too early to spring flower bulbs and the perennials haven’t yet woken up from their winter slumber.

What more can I say than Welcome March!

  1. Happy March to you! I also don’t like February. I really hope you’ll find a way to take care of your plants in a way that you won’t need to worry so much about them while on your trip.
