It wasn’t everyday I got to get out of the house and go for a drive but on that beautiful wintry day in April 2021, I got the chance when I signed up for a group hike. Unfortunately, I wasn’t physically fit enough to endure the hike, not when I had to trudge in knee-deep snow. So I decided to turn around and drive on.
When I got back to the car, I decided to consult Google Maps and it told me I could get to Bear Lake from where I was. I was in the canyon of Ogden and Bear Lake is on the border of Utah and Idaho.
Interesting.
I decided to follow that route – Highway 39 – to Monte Cristo but when I got to Monte Cristo, I discovered the road was closed. The road was incredibly desolate. There was no one, not even a bird caw-caw in the sky, just the soft whoosh of the mountain breeze.

Great shots of stark landscapes! Too bad about the hike.

Thank you. Yeah, it was too bad I couldn’t make it through the hike. I’d imagine the view be amazing.

Trudging in knee-deep snow would be difficult! Great examples of stark landscapes, though. 🙂

I was surprised I made it so far into the trail. Thank you for reading.

The opening photo is beautiful. I have a hard time with a few inches of snow 🙂

Thank you. I wasn’t expecting the trail to still have so much snow, especially in April.

Great photos…I haven’t really gotten to just go for a drive for the sake of enjoying the scenery in awhile

Thank you. I haven’t got much opportunities to do such thing either.
