Edinburgh was one of the places I have longed to visit because when I was thinking of studying abroad in college, I had chosen the University of Edinburgh. I remember looking at the pictures in the brochures and tried to imagine what the school was like and the dorms, my goodness, the dorms. I could only picture Hogwarts when I saw the pictures.
So imagine my excitement when I finally got to see Edinburgh 2 years ago. Of course, that’s about a decade after my wish to see the historic city and study in it but it’s better late than never.
My mom and I didn’t stay in Edinburgh during our trip. We elected to stay in Glasgow and then take the bus to Edinburgh for the day trip. Whatever that was left unseen would create an opportunity for a next trip.
The opening photo was my first impression of Edinburgh after finding our way from the bus station to the center of town. I love the architecture of the olden days. So different and a nice change from the modern era buildings.
As we continued to find our way to the castle, we suddenly found ourselves mixed among the tourists speaking in strange tongues. It took me a minute to discover that those were German tourists and according to Google Maps, the castle was in the opposite direction.
It was interesting to see the castle and the museums that were inside. From watching TV and listening to podcasts, I’ve learned quite a bit about the history of Scotland but learning is definitely different than seeing and it amazed me how much my imagination gets things wrong as I often try to imagine what life would’ve been like back then.
After seeing the castle and walking the Royal Mile, we headed up to the highest point we could find so I could take one more photo before heading back down to the bus station.

Hubby and I both have Scottish heritage so Scotland has always been on our bucket list. We finally pulled together a two month vacation with transatlantic cruise at either end and Scotland in the middle between Barcelona and Rome.
We stayed in Edinburgh and our hotel room had a view of the castle. We took a 5 day guided tour of the Highlands with 2 days in Edinburgh on either end of that. We really want to go back. Scotland is magical.

Scotland is indeed a magical place. I, too, want to go back and explore more of that part of the country.

Stunning photos. I hope to visit Edinburgh some day. I have a friend from there, and I force her to tell me long stories just so I can listen to her Scottish accent which I find so charming.

Thank you.
I love Scottish accent. When I was there, I even volunteered to go down to the front desk just to hear the guy say “bin bag” 😄
