Sunday Poser #240 – Following Maps

How is your sense of direction and do you always need a map/ google maps to guide you?

Do you need oral directions/ maps to find someplace new or old? How is your sense of direction?

If you ask my mom, she would say my sense of direction is horrible, that I’m always making the wrong turn and taking the long way instead of the most direct route, blah blah blah… These days, she is all about contradicting every answer I give to her questions and every move I make while she’s in the passenger seat.

Yesterday, she even screamed at me for not parking in the handicap parking space. Come on, it was clearly painted on the ground! She claimed she didn’t see it.

Anyway, if you ask me, I think I have a pretty good sense of direction. I usually don’t need Google Maps unless I’m heading to a place I’ve never been before. If I’ve been to a place once or twice before, I can most likely find it again without the need for GPS.

A few days ago, I heard a YouTuber said in a video, “it’s probably one of those routes on Google Maps that will save you like 30 seconds.” Google Maps has done that to me more than once or twice.

I remember my 2023 road trip when Google Maps took me on a scenic route. Yes, it was pretty but it wasn’t the direct route and there was a section of unpaved road, which in the end hardly saved me much time. Then when I was in New Mexico a few weeks ago, it tried to lead me down a narrow road just to save me a few seconds to the next highway.

After all of that, I try not to let Google Maps guide me unless it’s absolutely necessary.
