For the Unicorn Challenge…

As the train meandered slowly along, she looked back at the landscape, which she has not seen for 5 years since the day when she took this same train heading toward the opposite direction, away from the place she’d known for 18 years and away from all the people that she’d known all her life. For much of the first 18 years of her life, she has wanted to escape, to discover what’s outside of the bubble called her hometown, and to see what this great big world had to offer.

The day she tossed her graduation cap into the air was the day she said goodbye to her friends and hopped onto the late-afternoon train that led out of town. Onto the next adventure, she thought as she took her seat in the economy section of the train.

Never would she had guessed that her life would lead her back to where she came from when she landed a job just 15 minutes from the town she had wanted to escape for 18 years. She returned to her seat, stared out the window, and laughed quietly to herself, isn’t life funny sometimes? she thought, it’s almost like… a boomerang.
