Sunday Poser #242 – Expectations in Blogging

What were your initial expectations when you started your blog?

What were your initial expectations when you started your blog? And were you pleasantly surprised by it or disappointed?

Here’s something I’ve never told anyone: I created my first blog without knowing it!

I was taking a class at the community college back in the summer 2010. For the final assignment, I was supposed to upload my assignment onto a website. The instructor gave us a website, which, unknowingly at the time, was WordPress.

Three years later, when I was researching on how to publish my essays online, Google led me to WordPress. I tried to open an account but it kept telling me I already have an account. When I recovered my password, that’s when I realized I used WordPress before.

I did not recycle and reuse the same site from college. I created a new site called “A Random Blog,” and began sharing my essays and short stories. That was what I wanted to share with the world. As with most things in my life, I have little to no expectations about the direction the blog would go. I didn’t even cared who read my stories. In my early days, I didn’t even bother to tag or categorize my posts. If you read it, I would be joyous. If not, I would still be joyous. That was my motto.

When I got my first Like and follow, I was over the moon with joy. Never have I thought anyone would be interested in my writing let alone like it. It was then I started to look for tutorials to make the blog better and how to get more readers.

Now, 12 years later, I’m still surprised each day by how many are viewing my blog and reading my posts. I’m also surprised by the amount of friends I’ve made by blogging. My friends and readers are what keeps me coming back each day to write. Even though I said I didn’t care who read the blog in the beginning, there’s a part of me who knew I would never had kept going if I wasn’t getting read. So thank you.
