Happy Saturday! A big thanks to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare each weekend.
I’m sad to report that nothing out of the ordinary nor worth noting happened this week. The summer garden seems like it’s finally coming to fruition with 4 large cucumbers that should be ready to harvest within the next day or so and I’m now picking cherry tomatoes off the vine every other day.
The large tomatoes are also about ready to be harvested. A sudden wind storm came early in the week and evicted one of the large tomatoes (variety – Katana) from the vine. I found it on the patio not far from the plant. I wrote “evicted” because from the way it looked, it really looked like it was tossed out as the plant was in the back of the garden bed. That tomato weighed almost 8 oz (227 grams) and currently sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to ripen.
Much of the blackberries got toasted from the sun and the heat the week before when there was a couple of days that got very hot. I will need to prune those away one of these nights when I’m not so busy planting for the fall and winter. Fortunately, not all of them are wasted. There are still bunches of berries ripening each day.
Yes, I am already planting for fall and winter! I figured, why not?
I did my first sowing of fall snow peas last night along with fall carrots and a succession of summer beans after amending the grow bags with a mix of my homemade compost and mushroom compost I bought at the store. After growing beans for the last 4 years, I can conclude that though it’s a warm-weather vegetable, beans will not grow in full sun in my neck of the woods. Its leaves will fry and the plant will die. It actually likes cool weather but it will not tolerate cold weather. It’s very picky and likes to be comfortable like us humans.
Do you see that area covered in dark shade cloth? That’s where I sowed the beans, peas and carrots.
Do you like this look of the garden? It’s from a new surveillance camera I got last night. It has the angle and the height I’ve always wished my phone has to take a picture of my front garden.
Why did I get a surveillance camera? It was on sale on Amazon. I checked the price last night, $74.99 when last week, it was $23.99 during Prime Day. Holy moly! A $50 difference. Honestly, I thought it was a steal. Besides, I can only listen to my mom complain about the safety around the neighborhood so many times before caving in.
Honestly, I feel I live in one of the safest neighborhoods in the country. Kids run around and cycle around the neighborhood all the time. My only complaint is that I do not like them using my driveway as a bike ramp and skate ramp. I’ve been told by one of the kids that my driveway has the perfect angle for them to skateboard and bike. In my opinion, it’s a dangerous thing to be skating and biking on someone’s driveway like it’s a park.
Anyway, thankfully, I just need to endure one more month of this horseplay from the kids before school start up again. Between my next door neighbor and my neighbor from across the street, I think there are 10 to 12 kids running up and down my sidewalk at any given day. Thankfully, they seem to have the sense of not to play in my garden.
I once again appreciate you sticking around to hear about my somewhat of a monotonous week. Have a great week ahead.

I am so impressed with your gardening. 😊

Actually, I think you read it wrong. It’s 8-ounces or half pound tomato. 😀 I think I can probably break the Giness World Record if I really grew an 8-pound tomato. The most I’ve ever gotten for a tomato has been a pound.

Thank you. I haven’t tasted the big tomatoes yet. Soon though. The cherry tomatoes are delicious this year. 🙂
