Sunday Poser #243 – Recalling Names

Can you remember/ recall names easily?

Do you remember the names and faces of people you have met previously—a while ago, or do you forget, like me? How do you manage that situation?

Having to remember so many detailed information about my family, especially my mom, I have to have a good memory. However, it seems my memory has been slightly deteriorating as of the recent years. I suspect it has something to do with age or the amount of stress I’m under on a daily basis as the result of the things I have to deal with at home. Still, I think I do okay with remembering people’s names.

Ever since I transitioned to working from home during the pandemic, my interaction with the people at the office has mostly been through voice calls and written messages. Only a handful of the people at the office uses a real profile picture, most would not put their pictures, though I don’t know why. So when we greet each other in the elevator or in-person, I usually cannot pull their name out of my brain but they can because I use my real picture.

However, I just need to look at the face once and I’ll remember the name to the face. That’s usually the case but as I mentioned in the beginning, it’s gotten a little more difficult in the recent years.

Sometimes, if I really can’t place a name to the face, if the person asks me to message him/her, I will usually ask “what’s your name?” My policy is “if it doesn’t come up, don’t ask,” because that might trigger some awkward conversation.
