#FFFC #331 – Time to Run Again

Here is my first attempt at #FFFC, hope you enjoy.

Continuing from yesterday’s story…

Five years later…

Now 21 years old, Iz had lost count of the number of times she had to leap between the portals to find myself stepping out on the other side, walking among historical figures and experiencing historical events. Her most recent jump led her to a majestic forest in the shadow of a great mountain. A kind old man was willing to lend her a room in his cabin and though he seemed trustworthy, she could never divulge anything about her life to him.

On a typical day, they would have breakfast before he would teach her survival skills. “If you’re gonna live with me, little lady, you gotta know some useful survival skills,” was what he told her when she first arrived. Together, they entered the forest, she with a knife in a sheath, and him with his shotgun in hand – locked and loaded and ready to fire at anytime.

One afternoon, almost a year after Iz came to live with the old man, as Iz was approaching the cabin after a leisure stroll in the forest, the sound of gunshot stopped her in her tracks. Instantaneously, she felt her blood ran cold. Oh no, the old man. She knew it could only mean one thing, they’ve found me.

As much as she wanted to go check on the old man, she knew she mustn’t. She must run again. The old man could not had survived the traveler police, even with his animal-killing shot gun. Without another thought, she took off into the forest, searching for a portal to jump to safety.
