Normally, I would wish the weekend would’ve gone on longer but this past weekend, it felt like it went on forever.
My tooth was fine, by the way. I went to the dentist on Saturday and it turned out to be a case of the inflammation of receding gums. When I later told my mom about it, she said, “Already? You’re only 34!” Am I too young to have receding gum? Who knows? Then again, I am too young to have a lot of bodily issues, so I guess this is another one.
After the appointment, I went and got the supplies I needed to finish repairing the drip irrigation in the backyard. Normally, I would have procrastinated but with 0.5-inches of rain forecast for that afternoon, I thought I best not leave any open drip lines. I don’t want any dirt and debris getting in there to clog the system. It didn’t take long to get it done but I still need to swap out the irrigation rings around the plum tree in one corner and the cherry tree in the other corner. That will have to wait, I guess.
Rain came at the exactly time as forecast by Google. Well, hail came before steady rain followed by wind. I was never comfortable watching the tomatoes sway with the trellis. I don’t think I will be planting tomatoes in that bed next year. Too nerve-wrecking.
On Saturday night, I went up to my bedroom to find my window wide open, even though it was chilly outside. It turned out my mom was hot while my aunt and I were wearing sweatpants and jackets. I closed the window to a slit, to still let a little bit of air inside but after a few minutes, my nose began to feel stuffed up and started to run. Immediately, I shut the window. I don’t care that my mom’s hot. I was cold.
On Sunday morning, I woke up feeling like I just got over a cold, even though I didn’t have a cold. The house was cold. My mom had turned off the heat, even though it was only 45-degree-Fahrenheit outside. One of these days, she’s going to make me catch a cold.
I finally pushed the remaining home-made compost through a medium sieve. If I need to use the compost as a potting soil, I would have to push it again through a fine sieve. I don’t know how I can ever buy the bag stuff again after seeing the beautiful fluffy soil made from plant debris, coffee grounds, and banana peels.
That was after trimming back the tomato in the front garden to a bare minimum to let the fruit ripen in the next two weeks or so before the first frost hit and I needed a place to put the plant debris. As you can compare between the images below, it’s a drastic trim.

To the compost, I added equal part peat moss, perlite, and a little bit of the bag stuff to make sure there’s enough fertility.
The temperature never got very warm and the moment the sun set for the day, it got drastically colder with the temperature dipping back to the 40’s. My mom turned on the heat, thank goodness, but just as she went to bed, she wanted to turn it off, citing that she’s hot. I told her no, because I’m cold.
This woman, doesn’t she ever care about how anyone else is feeling?

I hope you will have a great week full of smiles.
