Friday Fictioneers: Retirement Day

As Carl shoves the key into the lock to the ticketing shack he’s been manning for the last 5 decades, nostalgia begins to creep in as his supervisor’s voice rings in his ears “Don’t forget to lock the shack each time you exit.”

“Yes, sir!” Carl answered.

“Hard to believe it’s been 50 years already,” patting the shack like a person, he sniffs, “I’ll miss you, buddy.” Tomorrow will mark the start of his retirement. “50 years on the job, what shall one do?” He wonders as he takes his seat and wait for the first visitor of the day.

      1. If she has grandchildren nearby, she’ll never be bored I do daycare and transportation plus entertainment. Then there’s my writing. Then there’s my wife’s “honey-do” list. 😉
