Are you emotionally attached to people, things or places?
Do you categorize yourself as a person who forms strong attachments to the past- places, things, and people? If so, what or who are you most attached to?
I mainly get emotionally attached to just about everything because my wildly imaginative mind likes to turn everyday inanimate into a talking person with feeling. Imagine grabbing an ordinary spoon and just as you are about fling it haphhazardly into the sink, you hear a voice, “Are you sure you want to do that?” It was the spoon talking and looking at you with sad puppy-dog eyes.
So yeah, this makes me feel like I’m responsible to the spoon’s wellbeing.
I am currently learning to let this attachment go because seeing inanimate objects come to life does not help with my gardening because this makes me get attached to every plant I ever seed and grow. At one point or another, I have to let the weak plants go allow the stronger plants to continue. To overcome my attachment issue, I’m learning the “close my eyes and rip off the bandaid” method.
For example, I had to thin out a bunch of self-sowed alyssum seedlings. When I looked at them, they all looked back with sad puppy-dog eyes as if they knew what I’m going to do. Imagine seeing 10 pairs of sad eyes staring at you. I took a deep breath and held it while reminded myself, “I must do what needs to be done.” One by one, I thinned out the seedlings and tossed them into the compost.

I think that’s the right way to do it. One can’t think about the feelings of inanimate objects.

It’s a psychological thing, perhaps?

I understand completely and feel the same about things, even though I shouldn’t. 🙂
