Friday Fictioneers: The Burden of Memories

“Dad, why is it so dark in here?” Before waiting for her dad’s answer, Cheryl yanked open the dusty curtains. Coughing, she pulled down the shades to make it retract.

“Don’t you dare!” Her dad barked. He was in his wheelchair huddling in the darkest corner of the room.

Cheryl walked over and noticed his hands were trembling. Immediately, Cheryl crossed the room to the nightstand for the medication. “Here dad, take them.” She pressed the pills into his palm and then raised his palm to his lips.

He obeyed and a moment later, he looked up at her, “Cheryl?”
